Sponsorship Fields
Although they are shown as global additional fields, the Primary Sponsors and Other Sponsors fields only apply to marketing lists.
In general, you should not edit these fields other than changing the names if you want to use a different term for sponsorship (see Changing the Terms for Sponsorship). The out-of-the-box settings for the field type are designed to support sponsorship functionality. For example, the fields are configured to only allow Active users. This prevents users from accidentally setting an inactive user as a sponsor when adding a contact to a marketing list. Changing this setting changes the way the Windows Client behaves.
For more about sponsored marketing lists, see Creating and Editing Marketing Lists.
