You set the options for an activity data set in the New/Edit Activity Data Set dialog box. This dialog box has two tabs:
- Contact Mapping
- Activity Type
Options Available in an Activity Data Set

Specifies the name of the data set. The name must be unique among all data sets in the data source. The name you specify is used in the name of the harvesting table for the data set. See Naming Data Sets. |

Specifies the method you want to use to find the InterAction contact to update with the activities. There are three methods available in the list:

| Regarding / Visibility Option buttons |
Indicates whether the data set should add activities regarding contacts or folders. If you select folders, then you also need to select the folder for the activities. |
| Activity Type Tab | |
| External data source |
Indicates that the data set sets the activity type based on an ID value from the external system. You need to harvest this ID from the external system, and it must match the ID of one of InterAction’s activity types. For more information, see Getting the Activity Type from the Data Source. |
| Use selected activity type |
Indicates that the data set uses a specific, defined activity type for every activity it adds to the contacts. If you select this option, you also need to select the activity type to use from the list. For more information, see Using a Static InterAction Activity Type. |
Create an Activity Data Set
- Select the data source for the data set from the console list.
- Click
or choose Data Set > New > Activity.

Enter a Name for the data set.
This must be unique among data sets within the same data source. For more information, see Naming Data Sets.

Under Map Contact Based On, select the method you want to use to find the contacts to update:
To Do This Use a system ID provided by the data source Select Data Source System ID Use an additional field value, such as client number or employee code Select Additional Information, then select the field to use for mapping from the drop-down list Use the internal InterAction contact ID Select InterAction Contact (Listing ID) For more information, see Finding the Contacts to Update with the Activities.

Select the visibility option you want for all the activities created by the data set:
To Do This Create activities regarding contacts Select Contacts / Everyone Create activities regarding folders Select Folder / Folder Determines, then choose (Browse) button to find and select the appropriate folder For more information, see Setting What the Activity is Regarding.
- Select the Activity Type tab.

Select the method you want to use to set the activity type for the activities you are adding:
To Do This Harvest an ID value for the activity type from the external system Select External data source Set all activities to the same, static type Select Use selected activity type, then select the type to use from the list
Note: The activity type must already exist in InterAction.

- Choose OK to close and save the data set.
Edit an Activity Data Set
Changing the options for an existing data set deletes all data in the corresponding data set table. You need to re-run your harvesting routine to re-populate the table. If changing the options also changes the structure for the table, you need to revise your harvesting routine first.
- Select the data source of the data set from the console list.
- Right-click the activity data set (
) and choose Edit.

Change the fields as needed.

- Choose OK.
Delete an Activity Data Set
- Select the data source of the data set from the console list.
- Right-click the activity data set (
) and choose Delete.
- When prompted, confirm the delete.
- Update any harvesting routines to remove any references to the corresponding table.
