The Name field group in Advanced Import includes all the following contact information fields:
- Title
- First
- Middle
- Last
- Suffix
- Goes By
- Job Title
- Company (Also Known As)
- Company Name
- Department
- Assistant
Using the Advanced Import feature, you can update all the above fields for existing contacts in InterAction. Advanced import uses the field group instructions you define for the name field group to determine how to manage the information you are bringing into InterAction for each contact record.
[A] The field update instructions determine whether a current value in InterAction is left alone, replaced, or deleted.
The options you choose for updating name fields depend on the quality of the contact information you are importing into InterAction.
Updating Name Fields During Advanced Import

Any information you add, update, or remove from contacts is subject to Data Change Management rules set for both the contact you are updating and the user on whose behalf you are bringing in contact information.
Special Notes on Updating and Deleting Name Fields Using Advanced Import
Some name fields have special behavior that does not necessarily follow the settings you specify for updating fields in the Name field group for an advanced import. Consider the following:
- You cannot delete the last name field for a person contact.
- You cannot delete the company name field for a company contact.
- If you delete the goes by name for a person contact, the field is automatically updated to match the first name field.
- If you delete the company AKA name field for a person contact, the field is automatically updated to match the company name field.
- If you change the company name for a person associated to a company contact, InterAction unassociates the person from the company contact to which the person is currently associated. The new company name is used to attempt to associate the person to a different company contact. The Data Change Management rules set for the contact being updated and the user performing the advanced import determine whether Data Change Management tickets are created for this change.
- If you delete the company name for a person contact associated to a company contact, InterAction unassociates the person from the company contact to which the person is currently associated. The Data Change Management rules set for the contact being updated and the user performing the advanced import determine whether Data Change Management tickets are created for this change.
