Ongoing maintenance is important for the health of your Application Server. These tasks help keep performance running at a high level.
There are several maintenance tasks you should do on a regular basis:
- Review the Application Server log files. This may help you spot problems before end users encounter errors in any Web pages generated by Application Server. You can also get a clearer picture of how Application Server runs normally, which also helps you recognize when something is not right.
- Archive and delete the log files when they grow large.
- Back up the Application Server and use version control software for changes, as discussed in Disaster Recovery for InterAction Application Server.
-
Perform regular database maintenance on the InterAction database and server.
A common InterAction database maintenance task is to change the password for the IDCAPP user account. When you do this, be sure to stop Application Server first, then restart Application Server after making the change. Also, always use InterAction Administrator to change this password. For details, see Change the Database Account Password (IDCAPP).
- Reboot the operating system periodically. For example, Microsoft recommends rebooting your server once a week.
- Monitor server memory and processor usage. As the amount of InterAction content increases, you may need to upgrade your hardware.
- Stop and start your InterAction Application Server service weekly to reduce fragmentation of your Application Server cache.
