In InterAction, an address can be designated as a mailing address for the contact. This address is displayed in InterAction and is typically used when printing labels and envelopes.
When harvesting the data, you can identify an address as the mailing address by harvesting a 1 into the MAIL_IND column. If you plan to use addresses from the external system as InterAction mailing addresses, your harvesting routine needs to identify the mailing addresses and sets this column correctly.
Since the mailing address is the default address used, you should only make addresses from the external system the mailing address if it is likely that users want to use it as the contact’s address for most mailings and correspondence.
A mailing address can be global or folder-specific. Therefore, you can make the billing address specific to the Client Financial Information folder and set it as the mailing address for that folder. Users can set a different address as the global mailing address to be used in other mailings.
Overriding the Mailing Address Indicator
The Always Override Mailing Indicator setting for the Address data set controls how the mailing address indicator behaves if the contact already has a mailing address.
- If this option is selected, the MAIL_IND column is always used to determine which address should be the mailing address. Application Collaboration always makes an address with a 1 in this column the mailing address. Any existing mailing address set in InterAction for the contact is no longer the mailing address.
- If this option is not selected, any existing mailing address set in InterAction is not changed, regardless of how the MAIL_IND column is set.
You set the Always Override Mailing Indicator option for the entire address data set. This option is used with all address rules defined for the data source.
