Note the following requirements for exporting a Web Client profile or search:
- The Application Server must be running.
- The Windows applications for InterAction must be configured to connect to your Application Server. You specify the name of your server in InterAction Administrator.
- You have to provide a filename for the exported file. InterAction automatically saves the file in the standard import/export location (see Location for Profile/Search Export and Import Files).
- You must log on to the InterAction Windows Client as a user with Manage contact types permission.
The following procedures describe how to export Web Client profiles and searches:
Export a Web Client Profile
Make sure your Application Server is up and running before you do these steps.
When exporting a Web Client profile, InterAction reads the information for the profile from the Application Server memory, not from the database. Therefore, if you edit a profile and immediately export it, the export file might not reflect your changes. Refresh the Application Server cache to load the updated profile into memory first.
- Log in to InterAction Windows Client as a user with permission to create contact types.
- The Manage contact types permission is required to export or import Web Client profiles. This is because profiles are typically created in conjunction with contact types.
- This permission is granted using InterAction Administrator. For details, see Give Users Permission to Manage Web Client Searches.
- Choose Tools > Web Client Profiles Manager. InterAction displays a list of existing Web Client Profiles.
-
Select the profile you want to export in the list, and choose Export. InterAction displays the Export Profiles dialog box.
-
Under Profiles to Export, select whether you want to export the Current Profile or All Profiles.
If you select All Profiles, InterAction creates a single export file containing information for all of the profiles. All active and inactive profiles are exported except the three profiles with the IDs of 1, 2, and 3 (Employment, Education, and Corporate Structure). These are special profiles that can only be created by initializing a new environment or upgrading an InterAction database.
-
Enter the Export File Name. Do not include any drive or path information – the file will automatically be saved to the correct location.
Note that a list of previously-exported files appears below the Export File Name edit box. If you want to overwrite an existing file, select it from the list.
Use a descriptive name so that you can identify the correct file to import later.
- Choose OK. The profile(s) will be exported to a profile import file (.*IAP) and saved on the Application Server machine.
-
Choose Close to close the Manage Web Client Profiles dialog box.
For details about importing a profile import file, see Importing Web Client Profiles or Searches.
Export a Web Client Search
Make sure your Application Server is up and running before you do these steps.
When exporting a Web Client search, InterAction reads the information for the form from the Application Server memory, not from the database. Therefore, if you edit a search form and immediately export it, the export file might not reflect your changes. Refresh the Application Server cache to load the updated search form into memory first.
- Log in to InterAction Windows Client as a user with permission to create contact types.
- The Manage contact types permission is required to export or import Web Client searches. This is because searches are typically created in conjunction with contact types.
- This permission is granted using InterAction Administrator. For details, see Give Users Permission to Manage Web Client Searches.
- Choose Tools > Web Client Search Form Manager. InterAction displays a list of existing Web Client searches.
-
Select the search you want to export in the list and choose Export. InterAction displays the Export Search Forms dialog box.
-
Under Search Forms to Export, select whether you want to export the Current Search or All Search Forms.
If you select All Search Forms, InterAction creates a single export file containing information for all of the search forms. Both active and inactive forms are exported.
-
Enter the Export File Name. Do not include any drive or path information – the file will automatically be saved to the correct location.
Note that a list of previously-exported files appears below the Export File Name edit box. If you want to overwrite an existing file, select it from the list.
- Choose OK. The search form(s) will be exported to a search form import file (*.IAS) and saved on the Application Server machine.
-
Choose Close to close the Manage Web Client Search Forms dialog box.
For details about importing a search form import file, see Importing Web Client Profiles or Searches.
