Relationships in InterAction are organized by relationship type, such as Board Member or Acquaintance. When defining a new related contacts type, you specify the type of relationship to create with the data set. Each data set can create relationships of only one type.
The list of available relationship types displays on the Relationship tab of the New/Edit Related Contact Data Set dialog box. This list includes all relationship types for the environment. You can add to this list by adding new relationship types in InterAction Administrator.
Both active and inactive relationship types display in the list.
Application Collaboration and Converse Relationships
Every InterAction relationship type has a converse relationship type. For example, the converse relationship for Parent Company is Subsidiary. Similarly, the converse relationship for Board Member is Board Members Include.
The defined converse relationship types display in the Corresponding Relationship column on the Relationship tab of the New/Edit Related Contact Data Set dialog box. When creating the relationships, Application Collaboration automatically creates the required converse relationships.
For example, if you are creating board member relationships between people and companies, Application Collaboration actually creates the following two relationships in InterAction:
- A Board Member relationship between the person and the company
- A Board Members Include relationship between the company and the person
You only need to harvest one relationship for this to happen.
Select the Type of Relationship to Create
Changing the options for an existing data set deletes all data in the corresponding data set table. You need to rerun your harvesting routine to repopulate the table.
- Select the data source in which the data set belongs from the console list.
- Right-click the related contact data set (
) and choose Edit.
In the Relationship tab, select the relationship type from the list by checking the box.
You can sort the list of types by the Relationship Type name, or the Corresponding Relationship name.
- Choose OK.
