The export addresses feature offers you the ability to export all addresses from InterAction in a format that is compatible with many third-party data cleansing tools. For details on the format of the file of exported addresses, see Export Address File Specifications.
Because this tool provides better address export capabilities than the regular InterAction Export feature, you should choose this tool when exporting addresses from InterAction that are cleansed in a third-party address cleansing tool.
Selecting Folders from which Addresses are Exported
You can choose the folders from which the addresses are exported. The two public folders, Firm Contacts - Companies and Firm Contacts - People can be selected from the Export Addresses dialog box. Alternately, you can search for other folders to include in the report. Unlike with the regular export feature, you are not limited to only one folder when exporting addresses.
Choosing Which Addresses to Export
InterAction offers the ability to export only the mailing address or to export addresses of specified location types for each contact.
If you choose to export only the mailing address, only one address is exported for each contact in the specified folder.
If you choose to export addresses by location type, the following addresses are exported:
| If You Select ... | Then ... |
|---|---|
| Business | All Business, Business 2, and Alternate Business addresses are exported for the contacts in the specified folders |
| Home | All Home and Alternate Home addresses are exported for the contacts in the specified folders |
| Other | All Other addresses are exported for the contacts in the specified folders |
Exporting Folder-Specific Addresses
You can choose to export addresses that are folder-specific to a selected folder. Typically, your system does not have many folder-specific addresses in your InterAction database. If you choose this option, any addresses that are folder-specific that meet the selected address export criteria are exported.
Exporting Shared Addresses on Person Contacts
If you are exporting person contacts, you can choose to export addresses on people that are shared from the person’s associated company or to export only person contact-owned addresses.
In most data quality initiatives, you probably choose to not export shared addresses. This is because you most often clean up company contacts first, thus reducing the amount of work required to cleanse person contacts.
However, if you do choose to export shared addresses on person contacts, you can choose the option to only include the same shared address once in the export data file. Choosing this option most likely reduces the size of your export file. When you then bring the contact information back into InterAction, the company address is updated from the person contact and all other contacts that share that address are then updated.

Export Address File Specifications
Unlike with the regular export feature, when you export addresses, each address for a contact is in its own row. For example, if I have five addresses for Telenorth Industries, five rows display in the export file. The following table identifies the information exported for each address.
| Fields | Description |
|---|---|
| IA Contact ID and Source ID | These fields are used to identify the contact in InterAction from which the address was exported. |
| Person vs. Company | 0 in data file is a person, 1 in data file indicates the contact is a company |
| Name | Used only for person contacts |
| Company Name | Name field for company contacts or company on person contacts |
| Job Title | Person contact only - job title |
| Location Type | Business, Business 2, Alternate Business, Home, Alternate Home, or Other |
| Description | |
| Additional | Person contacts only - additional line for the street address. |
| Street or Line 1, Line 2, and Line 3 | You can choose to export the values in the Street field as a single column in the data file or as three separate columns. |
| City | |
| State/Province | If your organization has defined a different term for this field using nomenclature, the field uses your defined nomenclature. |
| Postal Code | |
| Country | |
| Address ID and Source ID | Identifies the address in InterAction from which the value was exported. This value is used when updating InterAction with the cleansed addresses. |
| Shared from Company |
Identifies if the address is shared from the person’s associated company. This column has one of the following values:
|
| Last Edit Date | Date, Name and ID - This information can be used to determine if the address has recently been updated in InterAction. |
| Folder ID and Source ID | These values are used to identify if the address is global or folder-specific. If the address is folder specific, the values in these fields indicate to which folder the address is specific. |
| External Source ID and Address ID | These values are used to indicate if the address is owned by an external system and brought in to InterAction through Application Collaboration. |
Exporting Addresses that Are Externally Owned
When you export addresses, the export data file contains two columns that indicate that an address is owned by an external system. These are the following:
- External Source ID
- External Address ID
If the values in these fields are not zero for a contact, then the address is externally owned. You may decide not to cleanse externally owned addresses because they are brought into InterAction from an external system on a regular basis. In this case, you may wish to delete any externally owned addresses from the export data file before sending it for data cleansing.
