Most Web Client pages display using a standard framework. This is the information surrounding the overall page – the menu on the left-hand side and the header information across the top that includes the find bar and other standard links.
Menu and Header Framework for Pages
[A] The Find bar and other common functions are available across the top of each page.
[B] Page titles appear here.
[C] Many pages include drop-down menus.
[D] The main menu is available on the left-hand side of the page. This lists major areas of the system.
[E] This drop-down list displays available search forms.
[F] The actual page content appears in this area.
This framework is used for all pages that display in the standard browser window, such as the Person/Company Overview pages, the contact search pages, and pages for displaying lists of contacts and search results.
Note that this framework is not used for popup pages, such as the pages for viewing and editing contact information. For example, the figure below illustrates a popup window for displaying a Profile page. The user can review the information without navigating away from the Person Overview page in this example.
Displaying a Page in a Popup Window
[A] The View Full Profiles link opens a popup window for viewing and editing profile information.
Most pictures of pages in this guide leave off the menu framework. Pages that appear in the product using the framework will include the bar showing the page title. Pages that normally appear in a popup are shown with the full window.
Overview of the Left-Hand Menu in the Web Client
The left-hand menu displayed by the Web Client framework provides buttons that take users to the main “areas” in the product. From there, they can navigate to specific lists of contacts and individual contacts.
The following table summarizes the main buttons on the menu.
| Button | Description |
|---|---|
| New Contact | Opens a page for creating a new contact. |
| Search for (drop-down list) | Includes items that open search pages. |
| Home | Displays the InterAction Web Client Home page. This page can be customized to display information and links for your organization. |
| My Alerts | Displays the user’s alerts. This page displays the set of recent activities for the contacts a user has chosen to monitor and is a useful way for users to see changes to their contacts. |
| Contact Types | Displays the Contact Types page, which lists all of the contact types the user has access to view. Users can then view the contacts on each list, add contacts to the lists, and perform other actions. |
| Marketing Lists | Displays the Marketing Lists page, which lists all of the marketing lists the user has access to view. Users can then view the contacts on each list, add contacts to the lists, and perform other actions. |
| Marketing Lists (with sponsorship) | Displays the Marketing Lists (with sponsorship) page, which lists all of the marketing lists with sponsorship the user has access to view. Users can then view the contacts on each list, add contacts to the lists, and perform other actions. |
| Working Lists | Displays the Working Lists page, which lists all of the working lists the user has access to view. Users can then view the contacts on each list, add contacts to the lists, create new working lists, and perform other actions. |
If your organization has purchased one of the Related Modules (Matters, Opportunities, or Engagements), an additional menu item for the module is also available.
Although it is possible to change the out-of-the-box main menu, this is not recommended. Adding more links can make the menu less usable. Instead, you should customize the Web Client Home page.
Note that you can easily change the terms used for the main areas on the menu. For example, you can change the “Working List” term to something else. For details, see Change Terms Used for Contact Types, Working Lists, Marketing Lists.
Web Client Help
The Web Client provides an online help system to address common questions and tasks. The help is available from the “Help” link included in the main page framework. In addition, several pages provide links to “context-sensitive” topics that address the particular page or task the user is working on.
Most of the topics address either specific procedures for tasks or the “business rules” that define how a particular feature works. For example, an end user could use the help to understand how InterAction builds the Relationship Map for a contact.
Nuggets That Display Multiple Views (Nugget Lists)
A commonly used nugget in the Web Client is a “nugget list” nugget. This nugget has two areas – a link area and a body area. The link area displays a series of links. When the user selects one of the links, the body of the nugget updates with new content.
For example, the Overview page displays the relationships for a contact using a nugget list. Links for different relationship categories appear in the link area. When the user selects a link, the body area updates with the a grid displaying the specific relationships in that category.
[A] This entire chunk is the nugget list nugget.
[B] This is the link area. It displays a series of links.
[C] This is the body area. It displays the content that corresponds to the selected link. Behind the scenes, the body is actually displaying another page.
The important point to understand about nugget lists is that the content that changes in the body area is defined in Web Client pages. The links displayed across the top can reference either different pages or the same page with different parameters.
For example, each link calls the page relationship-simple-results and passes in different parameters that determine which relationships are displayed in the grid. The relationship-simple-results page is specifically designed to “fit” well in this nugget list format.
