Web Client users can use and manage working lists. The Working Lists page provides access to most working list management options.
Managing Working Lists in the Web Client
The specific tasks available for a user depend on the user’s access rights and permissions. For details about access rights for working lists, see Web Client Security for Working Lists.
The following table summarizes what Web Client users can do with working lists.
| Task | Required access rights/permissions |
|---|---|
| Create new working lists | The user must have permission to use at least one working list folder type. Folder type permissions control who can create a folder using that type. If a user does not have permission to use any of the working list folder types, the user cannot create any working lists. For details about folder types, see Permission to Create Folders. |
|
Change the properties of an existing working list:
|
Administrator role access rights. |
| Add and remove contacts | Manager role access rights. Note that assigning this right also assigns all Editor and Reviewer rights as well. |
| Add and edit list-specific data, such as notes, additional fields, activities, and list-specific phones and addresses. | Editor role access rights. Note that assigning this right also assigns Reviewer rights. |
| View and search the list. | Reviewer role access rights. |
| View list-specific information for the working list. | Reviewer role access rights. |
| View activities regarding the list (list-specific activities) | Depends on the individual activities. For details, see Access to View Activities. |
Windows Features Versus Web Features for Working Lists
When managing a working list, there are some differences between the features available in the Web Client and those available in the Windows Client. This simplifies the interface for Web Client users.
The following table lists options you can select for a working list in the Windows Client that are not available in the Web Client. Unless otherwise noted, the Web Client respects the settings made in the Windows Client; you just can’t change the options. For example, when creating a working list in the Web Client, the folder defaults to allowing both people and companies. If you change this in the Windows Client, the Web Client respects the setting.
| Windows Client | Web Client |
|---|---|
| General Options (Available on the Options tab when creating a working list in the Windows Client) | |
| You can specify whether the folder can contain people, companies, or both. | When creating a new working list in the Web Client, this is set to both. |
| You can specify whether the folder normally contains a large number of contacts. | Always defaults to no. This option has no affect on the Web Client. |
|
You can specify whether the folder should allow public access to profile data. This allows users without Read access to the folder to see the profile fields on the Folder Properties dialog box. Folder profile fields are provided for backwards-compatibility with earlier versions of InterAction and are not used in new 5.1 installations. |
Always defaults to no. This option never has any affect on the Web Client. |
|
You can specify whether the contacts sourced in the folder are audited. This option is only available if you are logged on using the System Administrator user. |
When creating a new list in the Web Client, this always defaults to no. The audit trail for a contact is only available in the Windows Client. |
| Access Rights | |
| You can change the folder owner. | The folder owner defaults to the person who created the working list (or the person on whose behalf it was created by a proxy). |
| You can assign access rights at a very granular level. | Access rights are assigned by role. For details, see Web Client Security for Working Lists. |
| You can assign access rights to all users. | There is no all users option for access rights – you can only assign them to individual users and groups. |
| Additional Fields | |
| Additional field definitions can have categories. These are used in the Additional Fields view in the Windows Client. | Field categories are not available and are not displayed. |
| Folder Profile Fields (Available on the Profile tab when creating a working list in the Windows Client) | |
| You can set values for folder profile fields. These fields are related to folder types and are provided for backward-compatibility with earlier versions of InterAction. | Folder profile fields are not available. |
