You use InterAction Administrator, Data Minder, and the InterAction Windows Client for most configuration tasks. Many changes you make in these tools affect both the Windows Client and the Web Client.
When working with the Windows Client, you frequently need to log on as a user with extra permissions (such as permission to manage contact types) or as the System Administrator User.
Some changes require you to edit configuration files and XML files on your Application Server.
Windows Client
The basic user interface for working with the Windows Client is the main window. This appears after you have logged in to the InterAction Windows Client and displays a list of folders on the left and any open folders on the right.
The folder list displays a list of folders and searches to which you have access. The folder list is organized into the following three sections:
- Favorites - contains your most commonly used folders and searches. Some special features are associated to folders and searches in this section.
- Folder Classes (Administrative Folders, Contact Types, Marketing Lists, and Working Lists) - contains all folders to which you have read access. Folders are organized according to folder class and folder type.
- Searches - contains all searches to which you have access. Searches are divided into two categories: private and shared.
You can open folders by navigating to a folder in the folder list and then choosing Folder Open or double-clicking on the folder.
To close folders, chose Folder > Close or click the X in the corner of the contact list view.

InterAction Administrator
InterAction Administrator is a program that you will often use to configure InterAction settings. Administrator is used for both performing administrative tasks such as creating users and for configuration tasks such as creating global additional field definitions.
The first time you start InterAction Administrator after installation, you do not need to provide an account name or password. After an InterAction database has been initialized, however, only authorized users can run InterAction Administrator.
Authorized users include the System Administrator User (IAADMIN by default) and all users included on the list of InterAction Administrator users.
Using InterAction Administrator
InterAction Administrator lists all entities you can edit in the main windows. Entities include items such as database, system data, page setups, and system services.
Main Entity Window in Administrator
In general, to edit an entity (for instance, create global additional field definitions), you can do one of the following:
- Select the entity in the list and choose Administer > Entity
- Double-click on the entity in the list
InterAction Administrator is often used while configuring your InterAction environment. This guide contains several procedures that require you to access the InterAction Administrator software.
Data Minder
Data Minder is a web-based tool accessed from the Windows Client's Data Quality menu. It provides tools for Data Normalization, a different method to merge duplicate contacts, tools for Contact Control (defining the minimal fields, suppressing contacts who want to be removed from the system, etc.). It also includes (Contact Health) tools for setting and assessing the health and status of contacts in the system and a convenient (Offboarding) process for employees leaving the firm.
