A single-user mode startup operation essentially locks all users out of most InterAction applications except for the InterAction System Administrator user. You cannot put InterAction Web Client into single-user mode. For more information, see “Can I Create a Startup Rule to Lock Users out of the Web Client or IMO?” below.
Preventing users from connecting to InterAction is useful in several situations, such as the following:
- During upgrades
- When importing and cleaning up large amounts of data
- When moving a database or server
Unlike other startup rules, the single-user mode is not version specific. Users are blocked from using all versions of InterAction.
InterAction’s single-user mode is different than the single-user mode that is provided with your database platform. Because all InterAction applications require two connections to the database, you cannot use Administrator or Windows Client if you put your database in single-user mode through your database platform.
Can I Create a Startup Rule to Lock Users out of the Web Client or IMO?
You cannot create a startup rule to lock users out of InterAction Web Client or InterAction for Microsoft® Outlook® (IMO). If you must prevent users from accessing these InterAction front-end products, you can stop the Application Server service. Note however, that when the Application Server is stopped, not only are users unable to access the Web Client, but other InterAction features cannot be used. For example, Data Change Management uses the Application Server to process user changes.
You cannot create a startup rule to lock users out of the InterAction for Microsoft® 365®. If you must prevent users from accessing IMO, you can stop the InterAction API Application Pool.
You also cannot create a startup rule to lock users out of the InterAction Objects. These are used for InterAction’s Legacy Desktop Integration including the e-Activity feature.
