Most of the maintenance that needs to be completed falls into the following areas:
- Backing up, re-indexing, and performing other maintenance on the physical database. For more information, see Managing the Physical Database.
- Deleting activities, synchronization with other systems, and other processes. For more information, see Data Maintenance Script.
Rename an InterAction Database
- On the main window, double-click InterAction Database to open the Manage InterAction Database dialog box.
- Select the InterAction Database you want to rename and choose Edit to open the Edit InterAction Database dialog box.
- Edit the name, then choose OK.
- When you finish editing the InterAction database, choose OK to close the Manage InterAction Database dialog box.
Delete an InterAction Database
Deleting a database in InterAction using the delete database feature is often faster than deleting the physical database using your database platform software.
Deleting an InterAction database deletes all information stored on the database, not the database itself!
- On the main window, double-click InterAction Database in the entity list to open the Manage InterAction Database dialog box.
- Select the InterAction Database to delete and choose Delete to open the Delete InterAction Database dialog box.
- Type the system administrator Account and Password for the database server on which the InterAction database exists.
- Choose OK.
- When you finish editing the InterAction database, choose OK to close the Manage InterAction Database dialog box.
Setting the Database Connection Options
The database connection options let you specify whether to disconnect the InterAction Windows Client and the InterAction database when the system is idle. If you select this option, InterAction Windows Client disconnects from the database after the system is idle for the amount of time you specify.
When a user does any action that requires information from the database (such as selecting a contact to view), InterAction automatically reconnects. This is mostly transparent to the user (the Windows Client status bar indicates if the database is connected or disconnected).
Releasing the connections after a certain amount of time can improve performance by allowing more users into the database at the same time.
There needs to be a balance between releasing the connections and the time it takes to reconnect to the database. Releasing connections too early slows down performance. You may need to evaluate and adjust this setting after users start working with InterAction on a regular basis.
Configure the Database Connections
- On the main window, double-click Configuration in the entity list to open the InterAction Configuration dialog box.
- Choose the Database tab.
- Select the Release database connections when system is idle check box, then enter the number of seconds after which database connections should be released.
- Choose the OK button.
Moving a Database
InterAction Administrator does not provide any tools to move an InterAction database to a new server. For complete instructions on moving a database and changing the database name, contact LexisNexis InterAction Technical Support.
